Movement Artist

 

Michelle Amara Micca is Queens based movement artist, working with the flesh, physicality, and form through various performance mediums to expose and celebrate essential human relationships and experiences.

 

Micca collaborates with various artists to produce films and installations as well as choreographs independently for the stage. Space Guns, one of her two NY films she has collaborated on, won Best Film in the Sparrow Film Festival 11 at the Museum of the Moving Image. She is a founding member of Lu, an interdisciplinary artist collective. Lu has presented works at the experi-MENTAL festival at Silent Barn, Red Bull Music Academy's A Class of Their Own, and Spectrum Theater's Ambient Chaos.

 

Originally a bumpkin from Northwest CT, she began her training under the instruction of her mother, Gayle Pitts Micca, at Vally Ballet Dance Fitness. She went on to receive her B.F.A. in Dance Performance and Choreography at Elon University.

 

Since moving to New York, Micca has presented her choreography at the Green Space Blooms Festival, Women in Motion, Elon University, the Young Choreographer’s Festival, the Queens Fringe Festival, Check Us Out Dance Festival, REVERB's APAP, and JLDC Choreographic Showcase. 

 

As a performer, she currently dances for Kinesis Project dance theater, The Physical Plant, Beth Soll Co., and Shandoah Goldman’s Carte Blanche.
